Becoming His Church: The Call to Discipleship

Are you a disciple of Jesus or just a fan?
This week's message challenged us to embrace the refining season God is leading us through. As we transition into a new chapter as a church, we're reminded that this has always been God's church—not any individual pastor's. He has prepared us for this moment through discipleship and faithfulness.
Jesus' command in Matthew 28 wasn't just for the twelve disciples—it's for all of us: "Go therefore and make disciples of all nations." We're called to be equipped, sent out, and to multiply the gospel. Even when we feel unprepared or scared, God meets us in our obedience. He doesn't call the equipped; He equips the called.
Jesus didn't keep His disciples by His side forever. After preparing them, He sent them out—two by two, with power over unclean spirits (Mark 6:7-13). Notice that He sent them out before they felt fully ready. The disciples had spent only a year or so with Jesus, yet He commissioned them for ministry. You may not feel prepared for what God is calling you to do, but preparation isn't about perfection—it's about obedience. God equips those He calls. The disciples went out "in fear and trembling," yet they preached repentance, cast out demons, and healed the sick. When you step out in faith, even when you feel inadequate, God meets you there. Discipleship isn't passive observation; it's active participation in God's mission.
Reflection Question: Where is God calling you to step out in faith, even though you don't feel ready?
Prayer:
Lord, You see the places where I feel unsure and unprepared. Give me courage to step where You are calling, even when my confidence feels small. Quiet my fears, strengthen my trust, and remind me that You go before me. Lead me one faithful step at a time, and let Your presence be my peace.
Amen!
